Help Save Molly’s Leg: A Community’s Call for Support https://www.petwithit.com/help-save-mollys-leg-a-communitys-call-for-support/ https://www.petwithit.com/help-save-mollys-leg-a-communitys-call-for-support/#respond Wed, 30 Oct 2024 03:59:20 +0000 https://www.petwithit.com/?p=14123

Molly, a playful 11-month-old golden retriever, captured her family’s hearts the moment they adopted her. But on October 27, their worst fears came true when Molly accidentally got out and went missing. They tirelessly spread the word across social media, only to receive devastating news later that night: Molly had been hit by a car.

A kind passerby discovered Molly injured on the roadside and quickly took her to City Vet Clinic, who contacted her family. Rushing to her side, they found her with deep wounds on her legs. After bringing her to the pet hospital, the vets informed them of two options: attempting to save Molly’s leg or, if her injuries are too severe, resorting to amputation.

Currently, Molly is under intensive care, and the family faces two options: attempt to save her leg or, if too damaged, consider amputation. However, saving her leg is costly, and her family is reaching out to the pet-loving community for support to cover her treatment.

Here’s an update on Molly’s recovery:

  • Monday, October 28: Molly remains bright and active, eating well overnight, with normal temperature, slightly high blood pressure, and on fluid therapy.
  • Tuesday, October 29: Molly is responsive, eating well, and her temperature and blood pressure have normalized before her upcoming surgery.

Every donation, share, or kind thought counts as they work to help Molly heal and get her back on her paws. If you’d like to support, please contact 050 249 61 00 or 056 222 73 08. Let’s rally together to give Molly the best chance to run and play again!

Unbelievable Sight of a  Dog on top of the Great Pyramid of Giza https://www.petwithit.com/unbelievable-sight-of-a-dog-on-top-of-the-great-pyramid-of-giza/ https://www.petwithit.com/unbelievable-sight-of-a-dog-on-top-of-the-great-pyramid-of-giza/#respond Thu, 17 Oct 2024 17:06:14 +0000 https://www.petwithit.com/?p=13995 In a surprising moment, a paraglider spotted a dog wandering on top of the Great Pyramid of Giza while it was barking at birds. This amazing footage went viral on social media and showed a dog that had somehow climbed to the peak of what was once the tallest human-made structure for about 4,000 years.

On October 14, Alex Lang was flying above the 455-foot Great Pyramid—the largest of the three pyramids in Egypt—when he noticed movement at the top. When he zoomed in on the flat space at the top of the ancient landmark, viewers were shocked to see a dog walking around.

Lang later said the dog was barking at birds flying overhead when he first saw it. The video showed the dog exploring the top of the pyramid, and many impressed viewers quickly left comments about it.

One Instagram user joked, “If he pees there, all Egypt belongs to him,” while another playfully suggested the dog was the Egyptian God Anubis, known as the guide of the dead and protector of tombs. Another comment wondered how long it took the dog to get there and hoped it would come down for some water.

It’s still unclear whether the dog was rescued after the filming since the video ended with the dog still on the pyramid. No one knows how the small dog managed to climb to the top or how long it had been there. However, there are some videos showing the dog getting back down to the ground.

After the video was shared on Instagram, it also appeared on X (formerly Twitter), where it quickly received over 5,000 likes. One user wrote, “Dog spotted hanging out on the top of the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt,” which caught the attention of many who were amazed at the dog’s adventure.

Lang, who filmed the scene from his powered paraglider, highlighted the importance of the Great Pyramid of Giza. This ancient wonder, built around 2580-2565 BC for Pharaoh Khufu, is still the largest of the three pyramids in Giza. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that draws millions of visitors and is protected by ongoing restoration efforts.

Climbing the Great Pyramid or any of the 118 pyramids in Egypt is illegal, but many tourists take paragliding tours to see the structures. However, it’s rare to see a dog up there, making this situation even more remarkable. The dog’s climb sparked curiosity and laughter online, with users commenting on how impressive it was for the dog to reach the top of such a huge structure.

Dog finally got down

Department of Municipalities and Transport Guidelines for Feeding Community Cats https://www.petwithit.com/feeding-community-cats-essential-guidelines-from-the-department-of-municipalities-and-transport/ https://www.petwithit.com/feeding-community-cats-essential-guidelines-from-the-department-of-municipalities-and-transport/#respond Tue, 01 Oct 2024 18:57:30 +0000 https://www.petwithit.com/?p=13762 As part of its commitment to animal welfare, the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has introduced vital guidelines for feeding community cats in the UAE. These rules are designed to ensure the well-being of stray cats while maintaining public health and hygiene.

By following these guidelines and supporting the Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, and Return (TNVR) initiative, community feeders can make a positive impact on the management of stray cat populations, ensuring a balanced and humane approach to animal care in the UAE.

Feeding Awareness Initiative for Community Stray Cats

The initiative focuses on educating community cat feeders about their responsibilities in caring for colonies of stray cats. By following these guidelines, feeders can play an active role in managing the population of stray cats and ensuring their well-being, while adhering to UAE regulations.

Feeding Essentials: Rules and Guidelines

  1. Cat-Specific Food Only: Feeders are required to provide food made specifically for cats. Human food or home-cooked meals should not be given to stray cats.
  2. Proper Use of Bowls: Each feeding station must include three reusable bowls—two for dry cat food and one for water. Wet food should be placed in disposable bowls, which must be removed immediately after the cats finish eating. Bowls should never be overfilled, and the area must be kept clean, free of rubbish and leftovers.
  3. Human Food Prohibition: Residents must avoid placing food meant for human consumption at cat feeding areas. This helps maintain cleanliness, reduces the risk of choking hazards (such as small bones), and protects cats from foods that may contain toxic seasonings. Violations can result in fines.
  4. Feeding Area Maintenance: Feeders are responsible for cleaning bowls before each feeding and ensuring that the feeding area is free from debris.

Stray Animal Management: Understanding TNVR

Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, and Return (TNVR) is a globally recognized, humane strategy for managing stray cat populations. This process involves trapping cats, sterilizing, vaccinating, and treating them before returning them to their original location. TNVR helps to stabilize and eventually reduce stray cat populations in a humane manner.

Benefits of TNVR:

  • Population Control: By preventing new kittens from being born, the stray cat population naturally declines over time.
  • Improved Well-being: Female cats benefit from reduced pregnancies, and kittens are spared from being born in unsuitable conditions.
  • Behavioral Improvement: Neutering reduces mating behaviors like yowling, fighting, and spraying, which can be disruptive to the community.
  • Health Support: Vaccinations help prevent the spread of diseases, both among the cats and in the wider community.

Why Cats Are Returned

Not all stray cats can adjust to indoor life. Many are too accustomed to living outdoors, and relocating them can be extremely stressful. Additionally, cats are considered an integral part of the UAE’s landscape. Removing them from an area can trigger the “Vacuum Effect.”

By following these guidelines and participating in the TNVR program, community feeders can ensure they are helping to improve both the welfare of stray cats and public health within the UAE.

Al Mayya K9 Assists a Compassionate Caretaker of 50 Cats in Sharjah https://www.petwithit.com/al-mayya-k9-assists-a-compassionate-caretaker-of-50-cats-in-sharjah/ https://www.petwithit.com/al-mayya-k9-assists-a-compassionate-caretaker-of-50-cats-in-sharjah/#respond Thu, 19 Sep 2024 17:04:11 +0000 https://www.petwithit.com/?p=13583 Al Mayya K9 Adoptions, primarily known for their work with dogs, has expanded their support this year due to an increasing number of requests to surrender cats.

One such case involves a compassionate lady from Sharjah, who found herself caring for nearly 50 cats. What began with just three unspayed cats quickly spiraled into a much larger population, leading her to seek help.

In a recent Q&A with Al Mayya K9, the lady shared her journey. Initially, she started feeding a few cats, but they soon gave birth, and their kittens, along with other cats from the area, began gathering at her home for food.

Before long, the number of cats became overwhelming, and managing them while maintaining a clean and healthy environment became increasingly difficult. She described how the cats started giving birth within her villa’s compound, making it hard to maintain hygiene and care for the growing population.

Realizing the situation was beyond her control, she turned to social media and found Al Mayya K9 through Instagram. After learning about their work, she reached out, hoping they could help manage the number of cats in her care.

Al Mayya K9 proposed a plan to control the cat population by offering free spay and neuter services. So far, seven adult females have been spayed, significantly reducing the number of new kittens. They are now focusing on spaying the young adult females who are mature enough for breeding.

In addition to neutering the cats, Al Mayya K9 provided veterinary care, ensuring the cats were safely returned in good health. The lady expressed her gratitude, saying, “The support we received from the team is appreciated. We don’t have to worry anymore about the cats giving birth often and the growing population.”

Although the rehoming process for the kittens has yet to begin, the team plans to promote their adoption in the near future, which will not only help find loving homes for the cats but also raise awareness about responsible pet ownership.

The lady acknowledged the importance of reaching out for help, stating, “It’s very important to maintain the population of cats and get them neutered or spayed—not just for us but also for the cats, as giving birth often worsens their health.”

Through this partnership, Al Mayya K9 has demonstrated its commitment to the broader community, extending beyond dog rescues to support those in need.

Their involvement has given the caretaker peace of mind and improved the health and well-being of the cats. Reflecting on the experience, she said, “The cats are doing really well, and seeing them this way gives us relief too.”

This story is just one of many that showcase Al Mayya K9’s dedication to promoting responsible pet ownership. By sharing these stories, they hope to inspire others to consider adoption and to provide the support needed for those facing similar challenges.

Al Mayya K9’s ongoing relationship with this caretaker exemplifies their mission to create positive outcomes for animals and their caregivers, ensuring that everyone involved can thrive.
